Ada's Last Day

Today was Ada's last day. She has worked with me for a long time, but she got a better job offer for the summer, and she wasn't planning on coming back after it. She says it is time to get a "real job." She was a great worker though, and we had fun. She is also the one that made it possible for me to take a few days off even without another cake decorator in the store by learning how to do the paperwork, putting the orders away, and defrosting. I am going to miss her!

5 Things You Might Not Know About Me

Since all of my sisters did this, I thought I should maybe do it too.

1. I can't STAND to have any sort of writing on me. Even if it was just an accidental pen mark on my skin, it DRIVES ME NUTS! This also extends to the colorful dyes I use at work, lipstick, and fingernail polish. I can only get my nails painted if they are clear. I don't know why. I just can't stand it.

2. I can't eat anything that I think is old. I ALWAYS check to see if there is mold growing on my bread or cheese, and I always check when the milk expires. Even if my leftovers still look appetizing, I won't eat them if I think they might have been sitting there too long.

3. After I take a shower, I fill up the bath tub and lay in the hot water. If there is ever a day when I am in a hurry, I have the HARDEST time not doing this. I started it to help ease the tension in my back, and laying there also pops my back on its own. It also helps me if I have a sore throat.

4. I have a movie addiction. I know that you guys kind of know that, but buying movies helps me feel better when I am in a bad mood even if I don't watch any of the ones that I bought. I also have a hard time not buying a movie that I really wanted to see, but hated it once I saw it. Even though I HATED Alexander and I thought Eragon blew, I still have to remind myself not to buy them when I see them in the store. There are a lot of movies that I had to buy the day that they came out, and I haven't watched them since I saw them in theaters.

5. I make lists of everything that I have to do while I am at work and cross it off as I go so that I can feel like I have gotten something done during the day. If I do something that wasn't on my list, I add it on and cross it off so that I can have the visual reinforcement.

I've Still Got It

Today was my day off from work. So, I called the IRS to get them to send me a new tax return since I lost my first one. It took me nearly an hour, with four different phone calls, but I finally got a lady to say that she would send me the form to fill out to get a new check.

After that, I went out to Farmington to get my Food Handler's Permit renewed since my old was has been expired for about a year now. Jay was nice enough to take me out to Farmington and while he ran some other errands, I studied for the test. I missed four questions, but I didn't really care what temperature a hamburger needed to be cooked to anyways. ;)

Then I headed out to the Redwood Road Campus of SLCC to take my placement tests so I can start getting registered for Fall Semester. I took both the English and the Math placement tests. Even though I have been out of school for about two years, I still placed into the highest English and Math classes that I need for my major. I still read at a college level. I tested highest in Sentence Skills. (That's because my mom taught me that a preposition is the worst thing you can end a sentence with.) Then second in my Reading Comprehension. My Elementary Algebra is still there. My college level math was a little rusty, but I still qualified to just take the one highest math class and then be done with it since it doesn't add to my major. I decided today that I wanted to major in Photography. Officially it is called an Applied Science Degree in Visual Arts and Design with a Photography Emphasis, but that's okay with me. I talked with my Academic Advisor about getting my credits transfered from my AP classes and my semester at the U of U. He also gave me the list of classes that I need to take in order to graduate. So, today was the first serious step that I have taken about getting back into school, and I am proud of myself for doing it. :)

Midnight Pirates

Thursday night, I went the midnight showing of Pirates 3: At World's End. I LOVED IT! Even though it was a three hour movie, it kept my attention the entire way through and I didn't even realize how late it was. I loved the new soundtrack and as always, I loved the cast. We went to see it at Megaplex 12 and we got reserved seating, so we didn't have to wait in line! Everyone just all met there around 11:30, grabbed seats and treats, and watched our movie. We all had a good time, even though some of the girls I went with didn't understand it, and one fell asleep. Originally, it was just going to be Amber with her boyfriend Tyson, and Tasha with her boyfriend Nathan and me. So, in order to not feel like a 5th wheel, I invited my entire store and some more of my friends. 23 people went in all. I spent $184 on tickets, but luckily, everyone paid me back! And with how picture crazy I get, I have no idea why I didn't get a single picture with Geoffrey in it...

And then there are days...

I know this is ironic since I just wrote about how much I love my job... but today was the first time since I have been at my store that I seriously considered quitting my job. (Quitting meaning giving notice until I could get another one.)

There were just a lot of little things that set me off today. The first thing that put me in a bad mood was one of my co-workers. She pulled something in her back, so she can't lift things, or do the ice cream, etc... She had mentioned that people in her family were calling her gimpy. so, I had jokingly called her that a couple of times, and she was smiling and laughing about it. I turned back to to my cake and WHAM! She whipped me with a wet towel! It hurt so bad! I know that she was just playing around, BUT IT MADE ME SO MAD! She was shocked that it had actually hurt me. (Apparently she has tried this with other people and not been able to make it hurt, so she told me that I was the unlucky person that it happened to happen to.) Normally Jess and I get along just fine, but this put me in a bad mood. She apologized right away once she saw that I wasn't playing anymore.

The second thing was that since Jess couldn't do ice cream, I had to start it so that Nicole could finish it when she came in at noon. That was fine, and even after she got there I helped get the rest of the partials in so that all she had to do was tubs. And there were two of them to help customers. Now, even though it was a Saturday, we are normally slow Memorial Day weekend since most people are out of town. So, the two girls liked to stand around and talk. While doing cakes, I constantly had to stop in order to make sure that they would still work. And even though Nicole got out the tubs we needed, I ended up having to help put them in since she left them out for so long that they were all melting!

Third, we have been having trouble with a girl named Heidi at my store. (She used to work at Bountiful and then came out to my store since we needed more workers.) After Sarah got there, Nicole was telling her about some of the issues, and I wanted to hear too. But Sarah got mad. She said that we shouldn't gossip about other people. She said that it wasn't something that I needed to worry about and the only people that needed to know were her and Justin. And that really got to me. I put so much effort into this store that I really feel like I help run it, and for Sarah to tell me that it had nothing to do with me really offended me. I see her point, and I know that she is right, but at the same time, it really mad me feel inconsequential.

I sent Justin a text telling him what happened and he could tell that I was upset so he called and talked to me. He said that I was a big part of how that store was run and of course he needed me. He said that I am the best cake decorator out of any of his stores. I said thanks, but I don't believe you, since I know almost all of the other decorators too. He said that he meant it. He said that my designs are really good and since I take such pride in them they are even better. He also said that I am really fast at it and still make them look good. He said when he first took over the store it was one of the lowest cake selling stores, and since I have been there it is normally the highest. He said he knows that it because of me. He also said that he doesn't think that Sarah meant to offend me. He said that he knows that she really respects me, and he wanted to know if we had any other issues that he needed to know about. He said that sometimes managers take their good workers for granted and he wanted to make sure that she wasn't doing that to me. He said hopefully I could just write today off as a bad day, and that tomorrow things would be better. He also thanked me for talking to him about it. He says he really wants to know when I have a problem.

The other problem that I have been having with working lately, is that I feel that the family gets mad at me when I am at work. I know that I work a lot, but I really feel like you guys get on my case about it. And that really stresses me out. Allie told me that she thought I had sold my soul to the store and that it was ruining my life. It completely shocked me since I do normally love my job and take a lot of pride in my work. Kjersti even gets mad at me when we go in there to stop working when I'm not on shift.

I do love cake decorating though, and I love how much money I make at the store. I feel like Justin respects me and I like that this job is flexible so that I can work and go to school at the same time. I like that I work all days so that I have the nights free. And, most of the time, I really like the people that I work with too.

I don't know though. I guess today was just a bad day...

I miss Natalie!

Today is Natalie's Birthday! However, Natalie went back to California for the summer about two days ago, so no partying for us. :(

Even though I know she doesn't read my blog, I wanted to say that Natalie is the coolest friend! We always have so much fun together! We tell each other everything and we have so much fun when we hang out together.

We never fight and we love the same things. We like to go eat together or go to movies, but we take turns paying so that neither one of us feels like we have to do it all of the time. It also makes it possible to do more, like if I have money and she doesn't or vis versa, then we can still go with the promise that the other will pay the next time, and it actually happens. :)

Natalie is still thinking about whether or not she would want to move out with me when she comes back. She wants to get married either Spring Break or next summer, so she didn't want to promise me that she could do it and then have to back out later.

Happy Birthday, my friend! I really miss you, but I hope you are enjoying the time in California with your family!

Because there are days...

I know that I complain about hard days at work a lot, but most days I REALLY do love my job.

This picture was taken right after we ROCKED out 31 cent scoop night. You try making over $250 in an hour when ice cream is only 31 cents! But with these people working with me, it all went really smoothly and several people commented that they could tell that we had done this before, when it was a first for all of us.

I have been REALLY busy with cake sales lately. Two weeks ago I sold 104 cakes in one week, and the week after that I sold 102. While doing that, I was also working on the back-up Mother's Day cakes. I sold 139 cakes this week, but I got CREAMED by the other stores since they are all more residential than I am. I worked my butt of though, so at least no one can say that it was because I didn't try.

This is Meghan, my other cake decorator. This was her last week though. :(

Both of these pictures were taking in out tiny cake corner where we make all those cakes and normally beat out the other stores with at least twice as much room as we have.

Even though I am still looking for a replacement cake decorator, I LOVE the other people that I work with too!

Sarah, the manager of the store, works almost as much as I do. She takes care of A LOT of things at the store and is usually either working on something for the store or being called with most of the problems that people have.

These people also help keep work fun and can help make a bad day into a good one. :)

We have a lot of fun. :)

And always hard workers...

... most of the time anyways... :)

Danae and Baby Isaac!

Well, since it is Isaac's seven months, and because I wasn't blogging about birthdays when Danae's came up, I thought I would combined this blog to tell Danae and Isaac how much I love them.

Danae, I love you so much! And I love spending time with you. I wish that I got to see you more often but I am so glad that you guys decided to stay here so that I can be around you and see little Isaac grow up! :)

He has such a fun personality and I LOVE how much he smiles!

I love his two cute little teeth! I think they are absolutely adorable! I think that he is pretty proud of them too.

And look at those beautiful blue eyes! (Just like his mom.)

Chillin' with his grandma. :)

Content with his dad with an adorable hood. :)

The little stud! I love you buddy! I am so glad that you are a part of my life. I love that you have gotten to know me well enough now that you will smile at me when you see me. I have enjoyed hanging out with you at Kjersti and Jay's apartment. I can't believe how mellow you are and how much you tolerate from your cousin who loves you so much that she HAS to be right next to you to cover you with kisses!

You are so freakin' cute little buddy! Happy seven months! I can't believe how old you are getting! I love you!!
