West Valley

Today I got to go and open the West Valley store. I was fine with the idea of going down there. I had been interested in seeing how the stores looked after they were remodeled. But, I ran into a few problems while I was there:

1-If I could describe the store in one word, it would be "dirty". At first I was completely impressed by the remodeling since I had seen the store before, it was really nice to see it after. But, as I got to working in it a little more, I noticed that the night crew didn't sweep or mop under any of the tables, the glass was all smudged, there was dried ice cream all of the cabinets and dipping wells, and their back sink looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years!

2-This one had to have a category of its own, the Freezer. First off, when you first walk into it, the floor sinks a little. Does that make anyone feel safe? Then, it is really really messy. There is opened boxes all over the floor. Third, the freezer door comes off the ground higher than the one at my store. Normally when I just need to look into the freezer, I catch the door with my foot. With this one, the back of my heel went right underneath it, scratching up the entire back of my foot. While searching for a band-aid, the cut bled through my sock! I finally had to resort to going out to my car and getting out the Traveling First-Aid kit that mom put in my stocking last year, that stays in my glove compartment.

3- Since it is a remodeled store, they also make new sundaes, etc... When I first saw them, I was a little nervous. Justin told me that I wouldn't have any problem since people hardly ever ordered them anyways, but if they did, there was a book explaining how to make all of them. I SWEAR, I had to make every single one of those stupid new sundaes! I as not very happy about it.

4-EVERYONE in West Valley either wants a Banana Split, or a Banana Royale, or one of the new sundaes that comes with a banana. I can't not even tell you how many I had to make of those today. Luckily, I had plenty of bananas, so I didn't run out, but I ran out of strawberry topping. They hadn't thought of thawing any the night before!

5-Since West Valley's freezer is such a mess, they have old flavors that have long since left the other stores, such as America's Birthday cake (avaliable in July), Black Walnut (March-ish), Happy Camper (summer months) and they haven't been able to get ride of Triple Play either. GROSS! And, every day they go to the store and buy more Whip Cream cans, when they have two boxes full of them in the freezer!

6-I was scheduled to work from 9-5. It was a little hard getting started since I didn't know where things were or what I was doing with half of the things. I felt like a chicken running around with my head cut off. I was supposed to have help at 3:00, but for the second day in a row, my help has decided not to show up. Luckily, he only thought that his shift started an hour later, so he eventually made it, but I was completely pissed off at him when he finally did show up and we had never even met yet!

On the upside to this day, the customers in West Valley were very nice to me. They were very patient with me looking for things, or having to stop and look up how to make what they ordered. I didn't have one customer yell at me at all today. They never even seemed to be irritated at all. Many of them tipped me. I made almost $10 in tips. My day would have been A LOT worse if every customer had started yelling at me. All in all, I made it through it okay, and as far as I know, I won't need to go back any time soon!! :)

Over and over, Chelsee, I am impressed with your sense of responsibility. I know you tried to find someone to take your shift after your sick day when you still weren't feeling 100%. And even though you have often taken other people's shifts when they needed someone to do it, no one was willing to fill in for you. So when you were still feeling crappy, you went off to work anyway. And the other person who was scheduled to work later in the day, just decided she didn't want to come in, so you also had to work by yourself. I admire you as well for being willing to fill in for people you didn't even know in a store you weren't familiar with just so those people could have the week-end off. If anyone had been mean to you there, I would have felt like biting their heads off, since you were being so generous with your time to even be there. Hats off to you, Chelsee. You have a sense of loyalty that amazes me.

Thanks Mom. You are forgetting that you also brought me in food to help me survive my day back at work when the other girl said that she wasn't going to come it. That really helped me! Thank you!! :)
