I have now seen all of the movies nominated for Best Picture. The Academy Awards are on Sunday, so I had to hurry and see the last one. The nominations, in the order that I liked them, are:
Crash - a drama that follows the lives of ethnically different people living in L.A. in a two day period and how all of their lives connect.
Brokeback Mountian - (like you don't know) The movie that Larry Miller banned from his theaters because it was about two gay cowboys.
Good Night, and Good Luck - the six reporters that stood up to General McCarthy during the McCarthy trials in the 1950's.
Capote - Truman Capote investigated the murder of an entire family in Kansas and interviewed the killers for his non-fiction book In Cold Blood.
Munich - the very long winded story of the men that revenged the Munich Olympic attacks of the Jewish competitors by Black September.
This is the order that I liked them, but my guess is that Brokeback Mountain will win.

This is a funny post because I just realized I haven't seen any of them. The one I most want to see is Capote. I very much enjoyed a biography of Capote written by George Plimpton that I read in college. I'm not sure if this information is of use to anyone but the biography is still on the bookshelf at home in Bountiful if anyone is interested. In fact, In Cold Blood by Capote should be there too.
I've seen Brokeback Mountain and Goodnight and Goodluck. My vote for the oscars is Brokeback. I do want to see the others--especially Capote, because I know that Wesley loved "In Cold Blood" and I've heard a bit about Capote's life. It is probably an interesting movie.
Good instincts, Chelsee. I thought of you when "Crash" won Best Picture. I knew you would be jumping up and down.
Chelsee, I have to just point out that I have nothing against Brokeback Mountain. It would not have phased me one bit if it had won best picture... not quite sure what Gary and I said or did to make you think otherwise... I realize that the women in our family are all about women's rights, and gay rights, and crusading with whoever else is being oppressed, but I want you to know that just because I'm Mormon, doesn't mean I'm not on your side. Just something to think about.
