Mother's Day Disaster

All week I have been stressing out about getting all of the Mother's Day orders ready on time. I have been going in at 7:00 for the last couple of days to have everything ready. At 2:00 this afternoon, some idiot ran into the power pole and turned off the power to the entire block. Now, with ice cream, that is a big problem. We were able to stay open for about another hour. One of our registers is hooked up to a back-up battery. But, the one that it is hooked into doesn't work without the other one, and that one didn't have the back-up. However, I was able to call the company and make them help me make a back-up file server so we had a register. We were able to help customers with anything, except the drinks that needed a machine to blend them. But then the back-up system failed and turned the register off. I have a key to the register, so for a while we were just figuring out the total by using a calculator and then figuring out the change ourselves. After doing this for about an hour and a half, my boss called me and told me that we needed to close the store because the ice cream was going to melt. We had to put all of the night covers on and keep all of the freezers closed to help keep them cold as long as possible. All of my cakes had to be evacuated into the bigger back freezer to keep them colder. I then tried to by dry ice to keep it cold, but Smith's was almost all out. Later, Justin had me drive out to the Bountiful Smith's to get the dry ice. By this time it had been over four hours, so everything was getting soft. I bought $85 dollars worth of dry ice and was two blocks away from the store when my boss called me again. "Good and bad news..." he said. "The power is back on."

Poor Chelsee! Sorry we didn't get our signals right about the lunch for Mom and Gary on Sunday! I'm sad you weren't there.
