Congratulations Courtney!!

Courtney is my other cake decorator at work, and she just got married yesterday. I have loved having her work at my store with me. She is really fast and keeps up with me, so between the two of us, the case is always full. We make a great team!

Jenny, me, Courtney and Sarah: two of the coolest cake decorators and two of the coolest managers working at Baskin Robbins!

Sarah and I drove out to the reception together. It was in Courtney's in-law's backyard in Farmington. I got a little lost since I took the same exit as when I go to Danae's house, I went left towards Danae's when I was supposed to go right.

Jenny is Courtney's sister and is the manager at Sandy. Or, at least she was. She told us while we were there that she stepped down. She has been a manager for over two years now and has had enough. She is going back to cake decorating until she can find another job. I love her though! I helped train her too. :)

I am so excited for Courtney and Dallon! A sad story though is that they have been waiting to get married until he could afford the ring, so he saved up and finally proposed this year. However, somewhen stole Courtney's ring, so they had to try and save up for another one. By the time of the wedding, they had another band and the diamonds that went in it, but they are still waiting to afford the middle diamond again. They have a fake one in it until then. Courtney is still really upset about losing the first one.

I LOVED her photographer. He took amazing pictures for them. Plus, she is gorgeous so it isn't exactly hard to take good pictures of her!

And last, but not least, the awesome wedding cake! Congratulations Courney!! I am so happy for you!!
Aside: I was able to save all but two of the cakes that melted. I even managed to get 32 cakes done today to fill the cake case back up. I guess the compressor of the freezer went out and it is going to cost my boss about $1500-$2000 total to fix. I told Sarah that if it breaks again in the next couple of weeks and I have to scrap and re-do all of the cakes that melt again, then I am going to quit. I don't think I really would, but seriously, BE CAREFUL WITH MY CAKES!!

And Then Depression Set In!

I know, I know... your not supposed to cry over melted cake, but really, with how much time I spend doing these, if you don't cry looking at these pictures you have no soul.

It started out a normal Friday. I had a lot of orders and about 20 cakes to get into the case, but really, for a Friday that is normal. Anyways, I was working on doing my orders, so I didn't notice when the cake freezer stopped working.

I still feel like it is my fault though. I should have been paying more attention. I even noticed that one cake that someone pulled out was a little soft, but previously another lady had been lookijng through the cakes, and pulling some out, so I figured that she had just left it sitting out for too long. I should have known better and I should have at least checked to make sure that my freezer was still working.

See previous blog, "Why I Stay" to see how these cakes are supposed to look. Although, hopefully everyone knows this isn't how my cakes usually look.

When I finally did notice, the entire top layers of cakes looked like this. Most of these cakes can not be saved. Usually I would just scrape them and re-do them, but when all of the ice cream in them is on the bottom of the box, there isn't a lot I can do.

About 20 cakes were lost. I will find out when I work tomorrow which ones can still be saved and which ones I will just have to throw out.

I actually handled it pretty well, all things considering. I saw the cakes were melting, ran and called Cold Systems and told them my freezer wasn't working and that I needed someone to come fix it. Then my co-worker and I pulled out all of the remaining cakes.

Then I started to cry.

Digital is for those Afraid of the Dark Room...

I started school on Wednesday, and I am actually really nervous about this class. I am taking Photo II this semester. The first class was pretty much just going over the grading system and the syllabis. A new addition to the first day is also an evacuation talk in case of a school shooting. SLCC has added locks inside all of the classroom doors now, so in case of a shooting, we can lock ourselves in. I guess there was a study done about Virginia Tech, and someone said that one class might have lived if they had had the ability to lock the door. Anyways, my teacher carries the key in his bag and he showed us where it was and gave us permission to get into his bag to get it if for any reason he isn't able to do it himself. I can't believe that we have to talk about this now, but going to school somehow became a dangerous thing to do. Back to my actual class, I feel like I am already really behind. It doesn't seem like my last teacher ended off where this one is starting. I am going to have to do a bit of catch up. He asked if anyone had done color slides before, and I never have. I also have never developed anything on fiber paper, but that is the requirement this time around. Then, halfway through, we are switching to digital. Since my nice camera with full manual controls is a film camera, digitial is definitely my weak point. Everyone else in my class is the exact opposite. There isn't anyone in my class that had my same teacher for Photo I. I was lucky that I didn't have to buy a new book this year, since I already had to buy it for Photo I, but we never used it, so everyone else has already been using it for a year now except for me. The only thing that I feel I have up on anyone else is that I have had to mount my pictures before, and no one else in the class has.

Day 2 for my class was today. I got my 30 pages of reading done, gathered my pictures together from my Photo I class as required by my teacher so he can "see where we are at", got my supplies (57 dollars later) and took a roll of film to develop in the lab today. During the lecture, my teacher called on me to answer a question about how you define shapes in a photo, and I didn't have an answer for him. I just had to tell him that I didn't know in front of the entire class. Later, during the actual lab, I messed up on developing my film. I only did that once last year, and it wasn't nearly this bad! I guess in my defense, it has been about a year since I have done it, but now I have to re-shoot my roll of film and start over. At first, I felt really confident about being in the darkroom again. It was something familiar and something that I thought I was good at. Unfortunately, when I was loading my film into the canister to develop it, I got a kink in it, so most of my film was touching another part somewhere else. Then when I was processing it, all the developer couldn't get to most of is, so it mostly just came out blank, like I didn't do anything to it at all.

I don't know what it wrong with me. I just don't feel as confident about my photography as I have in the past. It just seems like there is always another photographer that can take the same pictures as me but better. And they probably won't mess up the developing of their film later. I'm sure I'll catch up, but I kind of hate that I have to. I hate feeling like everyone already knows something that I don't, so I have to resort to a book teaching me instead of my instructor. I just wish that it came as easily to me as it did before.

Harder Than I Thought

I am kind of going through a hard time right now. The first one is self-inflicted. I gave up my caffiene addiction a little over a week ago. I have been having to take pain killer at least once a day to help me deal with the headaches I get from the withdrawl. So, my head hates it, but the rest of my body loves it. I sleep a lot better, and feel more rested when I wake. It is hard to explain fully how it feels to me not being on Live Wire anymore. It is kind of like the feeling of taking a deep breath of clean air after not being able to for a while, or like taking a cold drink afyter being really thirsty. I don't know. I just really like it. I still really want to be on it, and I don't think that I get as much done as I used to, but I think in the long run it is a lot better for me.

The second thing takes a lot of explaining. I have been having a lot of issues with Will and I didn't really want to tell the family, because I didn't know if I was just over-reacting to everything and I didn't want the permanent disapproval from the family like I have in anything that deals with Eddy. Anyways, so the weekend before our Cedar/Shakespeare trip was the last time that I saw Will. Even then, I didn't get to see him for very long because he had a wedding to go to for one of his former MTC Companions and then he had a date with one of Kennedy's Norweigein friends that came to stay with him when he came home. Anyways, Will also came up the weekend we were in Cedar, but I didn't get a chance to see him. I am used to hearing from him though, so I would call him and leave messages, or send him text messages to see how his life in Ely was going. Over three weeks passed and I hadn't heard anything from him. I was trying really hard to not take it personally. I know that he doesn't always have service down there, so just assumed that he was busy. Finally, I asked Kennedy if he had heard from Will. He got really confused and said, "Yeah. He was just here last weekend." Will had come up, and not even told me.

I confronted Will about it, and we got into a big fight. He said that I always over-react to everything and instead of assuming that he was just busy, I always just assume it is the worst case scenerio. He said that he came up, but that he didn't have time to see me, so he didn't mention it to me. I can see his point if I believed him. The problem I see with the whole thing is that he had time to hang out with Kennedy and other friends that we both have in common, so it would have been really easy to invite me along if he had wanted me there. I also started thinking about how I am always concerned with how he is doing, but I can't remember the last time he asked me that. Okay, that is a lie, but it has been a long time. So, we got into this huge texting fight, (he wouldn't answer when I called him, and when he tried to call me, I was working so I couldn't answer). We more or less resolved things, but he told me that he wasn't coming up for my birthday because he didn't have the time or the money to do so. I thought he was still mad at me because he also never called or said "Happy Birthday" to me in any way, shape or form.

I thought things were getting better though when Kennedy called me to come hang out with him and Will on Friday. Will was back in town, and he had been talking to Kennedy about how he hoped that I didn't still think he was mad, etc.. and that he should see me while he was here. Then he went on a trip to Moab for the weekend and came back on Monday. Eddy, Will and I went and saw a movie together. It was fun.

Kennedy and I were supposed to hang out on Tuesday, but since Will is only here until Saturday, we met up at Will's so that we could all hang out together. When we got there, Will wanted to show Kennedy an e-mail and said that I couldn't be hear it and made me leave while he talked to Kennedy about it. I had already had a bad day at work, so this put me in an even worse mood. After we were all hanging out together, Will was bouncing off the walls happy. He literally couldn't sit still. I had heard Kennedy from the other room say, "Well, just tell her how you feel. She has been pretty honest with you." After dragging the wtory out of them later, I guess what happened was that Will met this Brazilian girl while he was in the MTC. they have been writing to each other ever since. After he got home, they have been calling each other and writing e-mails, etc... and I guess she just wrote him an e-mail telling him how much she likes him and that if they were in the same country, they would probably be dating. I guess Will really, really likes her too, so while Kennedy and I were in the other room, he wrote her an e-mail telling her so. Will is thinking about moving to Brazil to be with this girl, and she is coming up here to go to BYU too. Will said that he can even see himself marrying her.

Now, I know how stupid it all sounds, but it really hurt me. I know nothing ever happened between us, and he certain doesn't owe me anything, but I kind of feel like the last two years were a waste of my time. I thought I hd been doing really well. After our fight, I didn't try to talk to him at all. I thought that I was finally moving passed everything, especially since my feeling of waiting had finally lifted. Seeing him so happy about this other girl though made me realize that I am not over it nearly as much as I thought I was. I feel like the real reason that Will and I aren't really friends anymore is that he knows I still like him, so the only person that was fooled by how hard I was trying to move on was me. so, here I go again, watching the guy that I like getting ready to marry someone that isn't me.

So, now that I have had my cry about it, I hope that this time, I know that everything is over and that I can finally move on. I hope that chapter of my life is finally over so that I feel that I can move on. I hope that I can become as strong as I pretend to be, so that things like that don't effect me as much anymore. I hope that with his moving up to Logan, it can be an "out-of-sight, out-of-mind" type of thing so that I don't hurt like this anymore.

Dating, Decorating and Decision Making

First off, I wanted to tell everyone that I went on a date on Thursday. A guy I knew in high school asked me. We are kind of friends. I wrote him on his mission and have seen him twice since he has been home. Anyways, his name is Sean. (He is the guy on the left with the glasses.)

He took me to go see Brian Regan down in Thanksgiving Point. I had never heard of Brian Regan before, but Geoffrey and Torrie were pretty jealous that I got to go. I had to get work off a little early, but Sean just picked me up from work. We drove down to Thanksgiving Point in plenty of time, but then got pretty lost. I kept telling him where I thought it was, but since neither one of us had been there before, he went with there he though it was rather than where I thought it was. Ended up that I was right and we only just barley got there in time. I have pretty good sense of direction, but also, I have been to a few concerts before. When in doubt, follow the huge crowd of people heading in the opposite direction! Most likely, they are going to the same place that you are! :) Anyways, here is a little clip of one of the joes he told for those of you that haven't really heard of him either.

So, my date went pretty well. I had a good time.

I also wanted to show you guys some of the decorating I have been doing for my apartment.

And since I promised I would post some more pictures of my cakes, I have a few more that I did for you guys to see.

I don't know where else to stick these pictures in this blog, so here is some pictures I took of Isaac and Kameryn this week:

And finally, last night I was working and I heard that Laura, our last shift leader, has decided to move to Wyoming with her boyfriend. That makes it so that again only Sarah and I have worked there for more than a couple of months. Sarah was really stressed out and it came out that she is thinking about leaving too in about six months or so. She is getting married in November, but her and her finace have completely different schedules. He usually works 9 to 5 and she always works the 5 to close shifts. So, I was thinking about it, and I started talking to my boss about maybe giving up some of my cake shifts to be trained as Assistant Manager at my store when Laura leaves. That way either Sarah or I could always been in the store. And, if I start training as an Assitant Manager, then it is likely that soon I can be a manger too. Justin said that even if Sarah left I probably wouldn't be the manager at 4th South since it is so busy and hard to hire people for, but he said he might be able to transfer me to a different store to manage and then if Sarah left and I had already been managing a different store, then I might be able to go back and do that one, etc... He said it is something that we can talk about and something I should be thinking about. So, what do you guys think? I have the opportunity to be a manager again, but the cost is still giving up doing cakes. Not necessarily for good. I can still open and do cakes once a week as a manager, but its not the same. The other thing to consider is that as a manager, I would be working mostly nights, so I would have more of my mornings free to take classes at school. I don't know what to do. Any thoughts?

Wesley and Elisabeth's Wedding Pictures

I know, I know, you have all been so patient. I really am sorry it has taken me so long to upload these pictures onto the computer for everyone to see. I really wish I could have been there myself, but here are some of the pictures that were sent to me:

Here are some of the decorations:

And as Mom was talking about on her blog, here are some pictures from Elisabeth's bachlorette party!
