All I could think about was how I had been to New York, stood at Ground Zero and personally seen the devastation there. I remember walking the streets of New York and seeing all of the posters up for the missing people that hadn't been seen again since 9/11. Allison came to mind, who plays Dante's Prayer and lights a candle every night in remembrance to the people that lost their lives that day.
My friend's point is that he sees all the evil in the world and sees it as a sort of cancer. He would like to cut it all out simultaneously, to ride the world of it all at the same time; take something as overpopulated and unnatural as a large city, and just wipe it out to start over anew.
I can agree that there is a problem with this country and with this world. There are days when all the missing children posters, news articles about the gang beatings and school shootings, wars and rape overwhelm me and I feel like the world is going to hell. But still, I feel there has to be a better solution than just wiping out a vast majority of the population to start over.
Growing up, my dad would take my family to various places around the country looking for Medal of Honor recipients. He would stand at their graves, place an American flag there and read us the stories of what those men did to be awarded their medals. As my dad's voice with crack with emotion as he read those stories, in the closest place he would ever come to being able to meet his heroes, I knew that there were good people out there that were willing sacrafice their lives in the hopes of making a difference, to making the world better.
I am not niave enough to think that there isn't also people that put themselves first and make choices purely for their own gain. I know that there are people that make bad choices and end up hurting other people. I do, however, see progress being made. In the not so distant past, people used to be able to lynch a black person if they wanted to. They were considered inferior and not even considered to be a whole person. Now we have a black man running for president. I believe that through our own negligance, we have caused the enviroment great harm, but I also see the green movement now and the people that are trying to make it right. I believe that through education and working at tolerence and peace, we can teach the next generation to do things better than we did and work toward a solution to the problems of today. I know that changes like that don't happen overnight, but I still believe they are possible.

Thats sad :(
He needs to go get a mind wipe or something. I know that our world is overcrowded and thers alot of evil in it now adays. But cities are not like cancerous growths that can be cut out as a whole. Its more like having Thorns and Roses. Thorns may hurt the unwary and careful, but if youre so mad at the Rose as to cut it down in one sweep with no mercy to the tender petals then even though the rose will grow back A bunch of useless lives have been lost because you didn't like the fact that you weren't as careful as you ought to be.
-apologizes if this doesn't make sense-

Thanks Chels.
Hope we can hang out sometime :)
I haven't really cared about what has been happening in this country. I would think to myself that I wouldn't be affected by what was going on in the real world. I would just play my games, oblivious to what was happening around me. But I care now. I beleive that I could have been with Wesley a lot longer if the gas prices were lower, so I really want Obama to be elected president. I may not have all the facts about him yet, but I know that he promised we'd research alternative fuels if elected, so I'm on his side.
P.S Sarah, I've sent you a message in Gaia. It's weird that I might have two cousins on Gaia, but I hope we become good friends. :)
It is people like you, Chelsee, that give this world hope. Killing has never been a solution to the world's problems. Just look what happened when someone flew two planes into buildings in New York. We attacked Afganistan first and many people died there. Then we attacked Iraq, even though they didn't have anything to do with it (but we could use it as the excuse) and no one even has a good estimate of how many more people have died there. With this kind of thinking, we should just blow the whole world up with a nuclear bomb and be done with it. What would that solve? When people die, there are other people living who become bitter and hateful, because they loved the people who died, and anger, revenge or a sense of justice starts the whole killing cycle over again. We may not be able to change anything overnight, but if we start with our own families and friends, improve the relationships we have, treat other people with respect and courtesy, we can also affect the state of the world. There are still good people in the world, even in New York.
Beautiful thoughts, Chelsee. And I couldn't agree more: I DO believe that at heart, people are good, and I do think we're making a lot of progress in some areas. The problems in the world can't all be fixed overnight, but it's through the diligence and hard work and love of individual people that will begin to make that difference. Thanks for writing this--it gave me some good things to think about today (esp appropriate since it's 9/11). I love you!
