Monday night, as I am sure you all know, an 18-year-old boy went into Trolley Square and randomly started shooting anyone and everyone. I was still at work at the time, so we saw all of the response vehicles racing to Trolley Square. There were so many ambulances, firetrucks and police that we thought that they were just circling the block. We didn't know that they were surrounding the entire mall. We had no idea what was going on, until other people called us to see if we were okay. Melissa's sister, Tarilyn called to check on her and tell us what was going on. Kjersti, Allison, mom and Geoff also called to check on me. So, I had heard what was going on, and I thought that it was terrible, but it didn't really hit home until I saw this picture on deseretnews.com. The scariest thing about the whole thing to me is that there was no motive. This guy didn't know any of those people. He just randomly started killing people. And I thought, "That could have been me..." Since Kjersti and I are supposed to go see all of the Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Trolley Square was one of the places I was thinking about going. There are only two reasons that I wasn't there, and that is 1) I hadn't gotten off work yet and 2) Kjersti would have been mad at me if I had gone without her. That scares the shit out of me.

Shooting at Trolley Square

Chelsee! First, I'm sorry I didn't call and check on you! I just assumed you weren't there, even though your work is located so close. I hope you know I love you even though I didn't think to call.
Second, I'm SO GLAD you weren't there. I already hate the fact that you're alone half the time at BR anyway, but then to have such a random act of violence so close to you scares me even more. BE SAFE!!
Scary!!! I heard about the shooting in some of my classes, I didn't realize how close BR is to Trolley Square! I'm so glad you're safe! That's an intense picture. It's always so much scarier when such acts of violence are palces we've been or go to regularly. I'm so grateful you're safe!!
Side note: Thanks for the congrats on your blog page, that's sweet of you. Thank you for being so excited. I'm so excited to have you as a bridesmaid! I'm scared for whatever you and Lindsay are planning, but I'm sure it'll be fun or funny. My other two bridesmaids are Beth Wilding and Amanda Wright. If you need to get a hold of them here are their school emails.
Beth's email: wil04031@byui.edu
Amanda's email: wri04013@byui.edu
Thank you again! And I'm so happy you are safe! Good luck at work, be safe, and have fun, despite such tragedy. You're awesome, and that's cool that Will signed his last letter "With Love."
Nae, I know that you love me even though you didn't call! I didn't list people that called to make you feel bad that you didn't! Sorry! I really do my best to stay safe. And, if it makes you feel better, now that Baskin is getting busier, I am not alone for nearly as long.
Chelsee,
I wasn't ever worried about you because by the time I read about it we already had a list of victims and their ages and none of them were your age so I was cool. I do remember how close you work to Trolley Square but there was so much randomness in this act that it could really happen anytime, anywhere it seems to me. One public place really isn't so much safer than another.
BTW — I don't think the deseret news wants you to use their pictures on your public blog, especially since you don't give them credit and it is an amazing picture.
Thanks Wes. I went back and gave them credit for it. I don't want to have to take it down, but I will if I have to. I wouldn't want to get in trouble with them.
